Sip and Step: La Croix Sparkling Water and Converse Chuck Taylors
As we continue with our mini-series highlighting some of our favorite “healthy” water alternatives and some of our favorite shoes it is important to remember that water should still be an essential component to your day, however, if you just do not like the taste of water, know that you are not alone. According to the Wall Street Journal about 20% of Americans can not stand the taste of water. But remember we have equipped you with several ways to spice up your water!

Once you have reached your daily water intake it’s ok to indulge a little! Balance is key! But, we do want to make sure that our “indulging” isn’t deterring us from reaching our goals, getting those gainz, and just being great inside and out. I did the dirty work for you by reading those labels and checking the fine print in order to hip you to an awesome “sip” and a pair of shoes that you can definitely “step” out in for a day of running errands or pair with a skirt or dress that can take you straight to happy hour while avoiding the pain of trying to style out in your heels. You’re welcome.
La Croix Sparkling Water
Saying that I keep my refrigerator stocked with this stuff is an understatement. I have an entire shelf dedicated to this obsession.
Why I Love It:
The fizzy reaction reminds me of my old pal Coke and it helps to reduce many of my cravings. This is definitely a great transition drink for anyone trying to say goodbye to sodas. A good rule of thumb is that you should aim for 1 quart of water for every 50 pounds of body weight. Adding carbonated water to your drinking routine may help you meet your daily fluid needs to stay hydrated. With the summer heat rearing it’s nasty head, hydration is pretty darn necessary! This little gem is also known to improve indegestion and helps to alleviate constipation.
The Reality:
The one drawback to this drink option is that the cans they are stored in are not BPA free. After discovering this, I definitely got a major case of the sads. But, if I am being honest, it didn't stop me from drinking it! I just hope that the company will make some adjustments down the line. Also, you can not use sparkling water as a complete substitution for traditional water! BUT how awesome is it to know that you have options?! We all love options!
Converse Chuck Taylor
I like to call this the “OG” of the sneaker world. This shoe has stood the test of time and (for the most part) the original design has stayed intact. Making its debut in 1917 as a basketball shoe, they have made sure to keep its relevance among not only sneaker enthusiasts but also your everyday fashionistas. And, although you will not catch many current NBA players rockin the Chucks on the court, off the court this particular shoe has proven to be multifunctional and a must-have in some form or fashion in your closet.
Why I Love It:
Mostly because it is so versatile and comfy! These shoes pair well with almost anything and you can dress them up and down. If I ever get married (another story for another day), I am insisting that the entire wedding party wear Chucks! Another benefit of this shoe is that it has found it’s way back into the fitness realm in the form of powerlifting. Powerlifters swear by working out in these shoes because they allow your footing to be close to the ground, which makes it that much easier to exert the energy needed to conquer those weights!
The Reality:
The price point for this shoe continues to rise and that is a bummer for die-hard Chuck Taylor fans who have been rocking with this shoe for quite some time. But, I can attest that they are very durable and once you break them in, they are the comfiest pair of shoes I own. I beg you to please stay with the traditional version vs shifting to the II’s that released last year. I find the shoes to be extremely difficult to put on and take off for whatever reason and really, really hard to break in which makes them cool for aesthetic reasons but not quite living up to what I have come to expect from Converse in the comfortability department.
What’s your favorite brand of sparkling or carbonated water? Have you really checked the label to make sure that you are getting quality ingredients without too many artificial sugars? Something to think about.
